The award was created by Delaware Valley chapter in 1997 to honor the memory of Buz Lange. The recipient best demonstrates the attributes that made Buz Lange the role model he was for junior engineers. The award is presented to the member who best emulates Buz Lange's character, including:

· Commitment to serving customers;
· Making quality #1 in all decisions;
· Encourages a team based approach at work by treating peers with respect;
· Developing innovative solutions;
· Sharing ideas within the pharmaceutical industry by participation in ISPE;
· Supporting local youth sports programs and charities;
· Mentoring less experienced co-workers.
