Dear Member:

ISPE DVC is pleased, once again, to support the Future Cities Philadelphia Competition.  This competition always middle school students from the Delaware Valley to design a "City of the Future".  They endeavor to create innovative designs that incorporate novel energy sources (fuel cells, biofuels, alternative energy, etc.), building designs and support services, including healthcare.  In order to support this, ISPE DVC provides volunteers to assist with judging and overall assistance at the competition.  The various opportunities to volunteer are outlined below.  Please contact me if you would like to volunteer to if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Andy Halsey

Event Details

Happy New Year from Future City!  Our 40 remaining schools are heading towards the finish line, completing their models and practicing their presentations.  All we need now are more volunteers to make the competition run as smoothly as it has in the past.  Please consider volunteering for the following positions:

SPECIAL AWARDS EVALUATOR: ISPE DVC sponsors a Special Award each year for Innovation in Healthcare which evaluates the teams with respect to creative and innovative approaches to the ways in which healthcare will address in the future.  These innovations span the spectrum from diagnosis and emergency care to treatment and pharmaceuticals to wellness and prevent care.  We are soliciting volunteers to help with judging the teams for selection for the ISPE DVC Innovation in Healthcare Award.

The time commitment for Special Awards Evaluators- Saturday, January 23, 8:00AM - 1:00PM.  Location:  Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 South Columbus Blvd, Phila.  There is no upfront training required for this judging.

PRELIMINARY JUDGE:  ISPE DVC is also soliciting members to function as Preliminary Judges for the overall Future Cities Competition.  Preliminary Judges evaluate the teams for selection to the final round, that will be judged in the afternoon.

The time commitment for Preliminary Judges - Saturday, January 23, 8:00AM - 1:00PM.  Location:  Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 South Columbus Blvd, Phila.  Preliminary Judges are required to attend a training session if you have not judged before.  The training session has not yet been finalized but will likely be a conference call/webinar on Wednesday January 20 at 12pm.

GENERAL VOLUNTEER:  If you would not like to judge but want to help out, we are soliciting volunteers from ISPE DVC to help run the competition by volunteering to help with registration, act as a team escort, take photos, update our website, etc.

The time commitment for General Volunteers - Saturday, January 23, 8:00AM - 1:00PM.   Location:  Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall, 1301 South Columbus Blvd, Phila.   A few volunteers are needed starting at 7:00AM and a few more to help during the afternoon.

Please visit the Future Cities website at www.futurecityphilly.org for more information.  If you are interested in participating in any of these volunteer opportunities please contact Andy Halsey at andrew.c.halsey@gsk.com.
