Program Topic Summary

Track One
The first track this evening is cGMP Compliance Considerations in facility Renovation projects.  The pharmaceutical industry is looking for a more effective use of capital and they want to look at the reuse and renovation of existing facilities rather than the investment in new construction.
This presentation will discuss the critical design, construction and compliance issues associated with facility renovation.  The major topics will include the impact of the addition of new product types and mixes, expanding product markets and new cGMP requirements.
We will here from the owner's perspective also in this presentation and how they are approaching this topic.

Track Two
The second track involves a discussion on Maintenance Excellence from the owner's side, Wyeth.    This effort was first initiated in 2003 and has been on a steady journey of improvement year on year.  The aim is to improve maintenance effectiveness as a major part of product and process robustness and quality improvement.
We're all familiar with Corrective Maintenance - an equipment problem has unexpectedly occurred and a maintenance team comes to fix it - certainly not the best way to run an operation.  To head off these unplanned events, a focused effort on Preventative Maintenance (PM) - proactively maintaining equipment on a set schedule - was initiated.

Today's Maintenance Excellence Program consists of seven key elements:  Maintenance Councils, Metric Dashboards, PM/PdM Optimization, Planning & Scheduling, Spare Parts, Calibration Rationalization and Mini-T/OE initiatives.  Wyeth Sites have embraced these seven elements and have active teams fully engaged in their implementation.  A few examples of some accomplishments at our site are a 60% reduction in packaging PM's, 40% reduction in documentation, over $300,000 savings in spare parts and continued improvement on Maintenance Dashboard metrics: significant downward trend in backlog, MIRs are 40% below the 2009 target and downtime is on track for a 30% reduction this year.

The most recent activities in this evolution are to intensify efforts across all Maintenance initiatives, particularly PM/PdM Optimization, and to organize activities into one comprehensive implementation plan.  Utilizing project management tools, the plan will be managed and milestones tracked to completion
